Saint Thomas, USVI, July 2008

The US Virgin Islands are America’s Caribbean. The official currency is the dollar; the language is English. (Okay, so they drive on the other side of the road…) The cars, food and brands are all familiar. Nevertheless, the overall flavor is distinctly Caribbean.   Eagle Ray
Wreck   The USVI in general, and Saint Thomas in particular, does not get a lot of press as a dive destination. This is surprising in that there are several excellent shallow and medium-depth reefs, abundant tropical fish and a surprising number of truly excellent wrecks, such as a full-size freighter and 300-foot hospital ship.
Given that three different carriers offer convenient and affordable connections between the DC area and Saint Thomas, we thought this would be a good choice for a five-day/four-night getaway. We’ll be staying at the Windward Passage Holiday Inn, a luxurious resort facing Saint Thomas’ mega-yacht harbor. A wide variety of shopping and dining are just a ten-minute walk away.   Resort
Dive Boat   Even closer still is our dive operator, Admiralty Dive, whose dedication to personal service ensures you won’t have to carry, set up or rinse your equipment from the time you check in until the time you leave. We’ll be doing three, two-tank boat dives with Admiralty, with the option to do more.
This trip was already half-full by the time we announced it. It’s a pretty good bet it will fill well in advance of the of the departure date. Make sure you don’t miss out. Call us today at (703) 263-0427.   Jacks
