NAUI Technical Diver

No Strokery

Divers have different reasons to get involved in this very advanced form of diving, but the common is to become a better diver. You will learn dive theory including physics and physiology, equipment configuration (DIR Philosophy), skills development and dive planning individual and team planning.

The NAUI Technical Diver program is designed to take you from the recreational scuba diver and develop your skills and train you to plan and execute dives safely use helium based mixes in the 100- to 180-foot range. Beware this is not a "Tec recreational " class with two hours lecture and a few quarry dives; this program will be the most comprehensive and valuable class for divers serious about Technical Diving.

This course prepares divers to use modern decompression theory and techniques to exceed the Recreational limits of scuba diving. Topics include:

  • Technical gear configuration.
  • Safety drills and practice.
  • Breathing gasses and physiology.
  • Modern decompression theory.
  • Team diving procedures.
  • Awareness and communication.
  • Contingency planning.
  • Contingency practice.
  • Stage decompression practice and problem solving.
  • Emergency procedures.
  • Oxygen toxicity.
  • Problem solving.

In addition the course provides divers with the training and experience needed to dive in environments between 130 and 180 feet using a "heliar" mixture of 16 percent oxygen and 24 percent helium. This allows the Technical instructor to teach and offer experiences in the 130- to 180-foot depth range and still meet NAUI recommendations for the use of helium based mixtures.

Students who meet requirements for certification will be capable of diving in environments up to 180ft. of water. Students will use helium-based "heliar" as their bottom gas, and nitrox mixtures up to 80 percent for their decompression gas. Students will use RGBM Tables.

Cost: $ 895
