Organizations We SupportDivers Alert Network (DAN)
Associated with Duke University Medical Center, Divers Alert Network (DAN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit medical and research organization dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers. Founded in 1980, DAN has served as a lifeline for the scuba industry by operating the only 24-hour diving emergency hotline, a lifesaving service for injured divers. Additionally, DAN operates a diving medical information hotline, conducts vital diving medical research, and develops and provides a number of first-aid and continuing education programs. DAN is supported by the largest association of recreational divers in the world through membership dues and donations. In return, members receive a number of important benefits including $100,000 emergency medical evacuation assistance, DAN educational publications, a subscription to Alert Diver magazine, and access to diving’s first and foremost diving accident insurance coverage. Dolphin Research Center (DRC) is a not-for-profit education and research facility, home to a family of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions, located on Grassy Key, Florida. Over half of their family was born at the Center, while the other members either have come to them from other facilities or were collected long ago by previous management. Research has always been a very important part of DRC’s focus. DRC evolved out of the Institute for Delphinid Research. When DRC’s founders took over the facility in 1984, research remained a high priority. They have since expanded their in-house research goals, and also worked with world-renowned scientists who have come to DRC to study our resident colony of dolphins. General areas of interest include marine mammal cognition, communication, calf development, and husbandry. For more information, visit Dolphins.org. ASC Supports Ocean Conservancy
